Hillary Clinton Camp Blasts Laugh Factory (Or Did They?)

The presidential candidate is taken to task by conservatives for someone in her team supposedly asking for video of her to be taken off web.

Warning: This video includes language that may be offensive. Viewer discretion advised.A call from a man identifying himself as a member of Hillary Clinton’s campaign team has sparked a look at how “Hillary Smear Sausage Gets Made,” in an article on Slate.

Apparently, the conservative publication Judicial Watch got a hold of information Slate writer Michelle Goldberg takes to task after her own inquiry into the truth of the matter.

“I’m glad I’m not in politics or any of that stuff,” said Laugh Factory owner Jamie Masada when contacted by Goldberg.

Indeed, though the situation is kind of funny, it is certainly no laughing matter when someone identifies themselves on a phone call as being with the Clinton campaign and then demands that a video compilation of Hillary jokes on the comedy store’s website be taken down. The man also asked for the personal contact information of each comedian in the video.

“Maybe it was a prank, I have no idea. Was it real? Not real? I have no idea. He didn’t call back, that’s all I can say.”

Judicial Watch reports that the video, “Hillary vs. The First Amendment,” contains a series of skits that “make fun of Clinton’s wardrobe, her age, sexual orientation, the Monica Lewinsky scandal and the former First Lady’s relationship with her famous husband.”

Now, after the Judicial Watch report, the feasting has begun, with Sean Hannity, Rush Limbaugh and others perpetuating the Judicial Watch story.

Writes Goldberg: “Regardless, the ricocheting has now begun. Earlier Thursday, a piece went up on Sean Hannity’s website: ‘Watch: Hillary Is Trying to Get This Video of Comedians Making Fun of Her Taken Down.’ Rush Limbaugh talked about it on his show: ‘The news about Hillary today is that she’s so offended at what comedians are saying about her at an L.A. comedy club that she—her campaign is actually sought the names and contact data for the comedians that are cracking jokes about her. … Hillary Clinton is offended at the jokes being told, and she wants the names and contact data of the people offending her so I assume that she can bully them or frighten them or pressure them into shutting up.’”

So, what do you think?! Is this a laughing matter? A twist on truth? Partial reporting?
