West Hollywood to Hold Transgender Day of Remembrance

The worldwide Day serves to honor and memorialize those who have lost their lives because of anti-transgender hatred and prejudice.

The City of West Hollywood and its Transgender Advisory Board will recognize Transgender Awareness Month on Friday, Nov. 20, at 6 p.m. by holding its free annual Transgender Day of Remembrance event at the Auto Court of the West Hollywood Library, located at 625 N. San Vicente Boulevard.

The outdoor reception will include speakers. It will conclude with the reading of the names of transgender people who have died due to transgender hate crimes, according to the city’s website.

A candlelight march will begin at 8 p.m.

Validated parking will be available in West Hollywood Park’s five-story parking garage.

The Transgender Day of Remembrance is observed worldwide on November 20 and serves to honor and memorialize those who have lost their lives because of anti-transgender hatred and prejudice.

The Day of Remembrance also hopes to raise public awareness about ongoing hate crimes against the transgender community.

In recognition of Transgender Awareness Month, West Hollywood City Hall is lit in the colors of the Transgender flag — light blue, pink, and white.
