2 Killed In Northern Colorado Flash Flooding: Sheriff

A woman and a girl were killed when their trailer washed away in Larimer County, according to authorities.

LARIMER COUNTY, CO — Two people were killed in flash flooding Friday that left several roads washed out in Larimer County, according to authorities.

Officers responded to a call that a trailer had washed away off Buckhorn Road west of Fort Collins around 5 p.m. Friday. Authorities found the trailer around 7:30 p.m., and discovered a woman and girl inside the trailer did not survive, according to the Larimer County Sheriff's Office.

Moderate flooding occurred in the Glen Haven area, and the Crystal Mountain and Buckhorn areas had significant flooding, including washed out private bridges and culverts. Buckhorn Road was washed out near mile marker 25, authorities said.

Larimer County damage assessment teams reported that one home was destroyed, an outbuilding suffered moderate damage, and 5 houses suffered minor damage. Officials will continue debris clearing operations on Monday morning.

Flooding closed County Road 44H in the Buckhorn area Friday, and the road is still open only to emergency vehicles as of Sunday morning, according to authorities.

The flooding occurred in areas impacted by the 2020 Cameron Peak Fire. There is no current threat of burn area flash flooding, according to the National Weather Service. Temperatures are expected to be in the 90s and possibly top 100 degrees Monday, according to forecasters.
