What Is The Best CO Amusement Park? These 5 Spots Won't Disappoint, Plus Family Options
Ready for fun and adventure to remember? We've rounded up Colorado's five best amusement parks. The results will surprise you, so buckle up!
COLORADO — There are two types of people in this world: the ones who will ride anything at the amusement park and those who watch the stuff while everyone else is riding. If you're the former, this list is here to help you find the best spots in Colorado to have the most fun adventurous experiences.
According to the Merriam-Webster Dictionary, an amusement park is "a commercially operated park having various devices for entertainment (such as a merry-go-round and roller coaster) and usually booths for the sale of food and drink." Admittedly, the following list plays a little loosely with this definition, but each place is certainly geared to entertain.
The Best Amusement Parks In Colorado
Glenwood Caverns Adventure Park is the country's only mountain-top theme park, located 7,160 feet above sea level. Here you'll find coasters with Colorado views, plus giant swings, a zip line and plenty of less intense family-friendly attractions, too. The extra special part of this park is that it also offers tours of caves inside Iron Mountain included in the daily attraction pass — a must-see part of the trip! Find tickets here.

Elitch Gardens Theme And Water Park is located right in Denver, so the convenience factor for high if you live in the Mile High City. This certainly isn't a small urban amusement park, though. Elitch Gardens has a full lineup of rides, both adventurous and family-friendly, and it also has a full water park area with large rides and those for kids.
For example, one rollercoaster called the Mind Eraser is described as "a monster coaster that suspends riders (legs and feet dangling) and blasts them through rollovers, dives and double corkscrew spins at speeds greater than 50 mph." This spot can certainly handle to need for thrill, and the water park is just as adventurous. The SlideZilla is a six-story slide that sends riders to a "swirling 24-foot bowl before unexpectedly dropping 57 feet and then up into a massive four-story high tornado wave. After cresting the fierce water wall, the riders slide into an exhilarating splashdown." Find tickets here.

Celebrate all year-long at The North Pole - Santa’s Workshop, which describes itself as "an enchanting vintage amusement park nestled at the foot of Pikes Peak in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Home to Santa’s Village and the jolly man himself – the spirit of Christmas lives on all year long here at The North Pole." While this spot doesn't have the highest, fastest rides, it does have an undeniable charm that will make anyone jolly on its cute, themed rides. Plus, these rides are more child friendly (there's still ones for adults), so this is a great spot for a family with little ones. Find tickets here.
Well, technically these might not strictly be amusement parks, but have you ever wondered what ski resorts do when the snow is nowhere to be found? They turn into adventure parks with rollercoasters and slides full of even more fun activities, like zip lining, rock climbing, hiking, biking and more.
Copper Mountain is one great resort to visit in the summer because of the wide array of activities. One standout option is the Bumper Boats on the West Lake as a refreshing way to goof off while cooling. Breckenridge Resort also features great activity choices, the most unique of them being the Alpineer Challenge Course that includes a log walk, rope swings, and more.
The final spot on our list is Royal Gorge Bridge And Park because the attractions are so thrilling and adventurous. The Royal Gorge Bridge itself is an adventure as it is suspended 956 feet above the Arkansas River. Highlights here include a family-friendly, guided climbing of the walls of the gorge, a Skycoaster that swings over the edge, a zipline across the gorge and more. While the experiences sound incredible, be warned that this is also an expensive spot. Find tickets here, but the admission tickets do not cover the zipline, Skycoaster or guided climbing experiences. The first two require a ticket each in addition to the admission, and the former requires a separate package found here.
Happy Thrills!
