A Celebratory Hue: Longmont Hosts Public Power Week Contest
While Boulder fights with Xcel, Longmont hosts a coloring contest.

LONGMONT, CO - While Boulder spends the week fighting its latest battle in the attempted separation from Xcel Energy, Longmont is celebrating its own local power utility with a coloring contest. Public Power Week falls in the first full week of October - this year, October 7-13 - and celebrates the 2,000 community-owned, not-for-profit utilities that operate nationwide. To help commemorate the event, Longmont Power and Communications is offering a $50 gift certificate to the best contest entries that tout local power and electric safety.
“We belong to our customers, and that’s where our focus is – the people who live, work, and play alongside us,” LPC general manager Tom Roiniotis said in a press release on the City of Longmont webpage. “They’re our owners and our neighbors. This is a fun way to remind our neighbors, young and old, how to stay safe around the electricity we all value so much.”
Longmont Power and Communications was established in 1912 as Longmont's public utility, and has been national recognized for low rates and reliability in recent years. Rules for the contest and coloring pages for entrants young and old can be found on the city's website.
