Crocodile Attacks 2 Coloradans Swimming In Ocean In Mexico

A crocodile attacked two Colorado men in Mexico, officials say. They were left bloodied and had to receive first aid.

PUERTO VALLARTA, MEXICO — Two Coloradans were attacked by a crocodile and injured in Mexico, according to a report.

A 24-year-old man went swimming in the ocean at night at a resort in Puerto Vallarta when a crocodile bit his legs, arm, abdomen and chest, the civil defense office in the western state of Jalisco tweeted Tuesday. His companion then suffered a hand wound when he went into the water to help.

Both received first aid at the scene. Their names and hometowns weren't immediately released.

Photos posted by the civil defense office showed the men bloodied and bandaged.

According to the U.S. Geological Survey, the American crocodile lives in several places within the Americas, including Mexico, Central and South America, the Caribbean, and south Florida. Crocodiles have a more pointed or V-shaped snout compared to the American alligator, and are a lighter grayish-brown color.

A large crocodile can reach a length of 7 1/2 to 12 feet.
