Off-Duty Johnstone Police Officer Drowns In Reservoir
Yuri Thomas, 32, and his wife were swimming at Horsetooth reservoir when he went under. Fellow officers are raising money for the family.

FORT COLLINS, CO — The man who drowned in a Colorado reservoir Monday afternoon was identified as a Johnstown police officer. Off-duty officer Yuri Thomas, 32, was pulled unresponsive from Horsetooth Reservoir on Monday afternoon.
Thomas and his wife were swimming at the reservoir when he disappeared underwater. His wife called 911 and searchers found Thomas, after about an hour, about 45 feet from the shore.
Thomas's fellow officers at the Johnstone PD described him on a GoFundMe fundraising site as, "one of the happiest, enthusiastic, and most dedicated officers to serve the citizens of Johnstown... Our hearts are heavy with this loss, but our loss is secondary to the loss being felt by his wonderful wife. We grieve with her and for her in this troubling time." The police department is raising money to help Thomas's wife pay for funeral and other expenses.
