Across Colorado Patch asked readers to tell us what their moms mean to them. Read what Beth Harwell had to say.
ACROSS COLORADO, CO — She's the one that loved you first, but mom is much more than that. She’s a friend, a teacher, a counselor, a shoulder to cry on — and maybe one of the toughest women you’ve ever met.
We asked Patch readers in more than 1,000 communities to tell us what their moms mean to them. Nearly 200 people responded, paying tribute not just to moms but sometimes to grandmas, sisters and daughters who deserve recognition for Mother’s Day 2021.
Here’s what Beth Harwell of Littleton had to say about mom Jane Grifasi of Westminster :

This Mother’s Day weekend it will be five years since your memorial service. Five years since cancer shockingly snatched you away way too young from family, friends and coworkers that adored you. Five years since we said tearful goodbyes to the kindest, most unselfish, truly irreplaceable woman in our lives. Mom, I’m trying to raise 5 teenagers and young adults in this ridiculously complex world. I am desperate for your advice, wisdom, perspective. How did you do this and make it look so easy? If “time heals, ” why do my tears still spill into my mask at the store when I see a mom and daughter shopping together? Hearing “somewhere over the rainbow” by Israel Kamakawiwoʻole wrecks me. You cared about what really mattered in life, you loved us so well & in your suffering you demonstrated such tenacity, grace and a beautiful gratitude for each breath. You told me that you’re going to be waiting for me, a special meeting, right inside the gates. I long for that day and can’t wait to give you a big hug! Happy Mother’s Day, Mom. I miss you dearly! Much love, and Bethers
