UNC Reopens Renovated Tobey-Kendel Dining Hall with 24/7 Access

Key upgrades to the dining hall include extended operating hours, offering students access to meals throughout the day and night

The University of Northern Colorado (UNC) Dining Services by Sodexo begins the semester with the grand reopening of the newly renovated Tobey-Kendel Dining Hall, a major transformation aimed at enhancing the dining experience for the campus community.

The reopening marks a significant moment, as Tobey-Kendel had been closed during the COVID-19 pandemic and was the sole dining facility on central campus at the time. Now, its return has generated excitement among students, faculty, staff, and parents alike.

“I think that the partnership with Sodexo has been outstanding for students,” said Jenna Finley, UNC associate vice president of student affairs. “We have been able to do some very creative things, and it’s really changed the feel of campus because people want to come together in community around food. So now that we have places that students want to go and gather, it just makes a difference in community building.”

Key upgrades to the dining hall include extended operating hours, offering students access to meals throughout the day and night. This flexibility is intended to accommodate a wide range of schedules, whether students are early risers or prefer late-night study sessions.

One of the standout features of the renovation is the introduction of a 24/7 Grab-and-Go Market, providing a convenient option for those seeking snacks or ready-to-eat meals. The market includes an AI-powered self-checkout system, which instantly recognizes items for faster, more efficient transactions.

The new Just Baked kiosk, also open 24/7, offers fresh baked goods, providing students with sweet treats or quick snacks at any time of day. Both locations accept Dining Dollars, debit, and credit card payments.

In addition, UNC Dining has integrated Grubhub into all retail dining locations at the University Center, allowing students to place orders in advance and avoid waiting in line. This enhancement streamlines the dining process and saves valuable time for students.

To celebrate the reopening, UNC Dining is hosting a series of events and promotions throughout the week, encouraging students to explore the upgraded facilities, sample new menu offerings, and participate in various campus activities.
