Weld County Sheriff Deputy, Suspect Wounded In Shootout
A deputy and a Greeley man were taken to the hospital with gunshot wounds Wednesday night, the sheriff's office said.

GREELEY, CO – A sheriff's deputy and a Greeley man were injured in a shootout Wednesday evening, the Weld County Sheriff's Office said.
The incident happened around 9:20 p.m. in the 2200 block of Northwest C Street after sheriff's deputies responded to a call regarding an armed man. The man was in front of the home when officers arrived, and "began shooting towards deputies," the office said in a statement.
One officer was wounded in the thigh and abdomen. Deputies returned fire and the suspect was also wounded. Both were taken to a nearby hospital, where the deputy went through surgery and was listed in stable condition Wednesday night. The condition of the man shot was unknown Wednesday.

The deputy shot was identified as Brandon Stupka, a 10-year veteran of the department, the Greeley Tribune reported. The sheriff's office did not name the man shot.
After the shootout, a woman and three juveniles were escorted from the scene by police, the paper reported.

It was unclear whether the deputy who was wounded was among the deputies who shot the armed man. The department will be investigating the case as an officer-involved shooting through the county's Critical Incident Response Team, what sheriff's office said. The deputies involved in the shooting will be placed on administrative leave during the investigation.
