17-Year-Old Pleads Guilty, Sentenced For 2017 Stabbing Murder

BOULDER, CO — Aidan von Grabow, the 17-year-old who pleaded guilty to multiple counts, including murder, on Friday, was sentence to life in prison the same day, according to a Daily Camera report. Von Grabow was 15 when he stabbed Makayla Grote to death in her Longmont apartment.
Police believe von Grabow had intended to kill Grote's younger sister, with whom he went to high school, when he arrived at the apartment, the Camera reported. Grote answered the door instead while her younger sister hid in another room.
Von Grabow pleaded guilty to first-degree murder, two counts of attempted murder, two counts of stalking, menacing, criminal extortion, attempted arson, harassment and, as a juvenile, he pleaded guilty to attempted murder and aggravated juvenile offender, the Camera reported.

If he were an adult, he would serve life in prison without the possibility of parole. However, since he was 15 at the time, he will be eligible for parole after 40 years, then will be on parole until he dies, the outlet reported.

"Something broke," in von Grabow, his mother said, according to the Camera. "[W]hat that something was I can’t say, but my God it broke, and in such a hurtful way, causing so much pain and suffering and loss that I can’t even wrap my head around it," she said.
