Blasting, Causing Boulder Canyon Drive Closures, Extended

Blasting on Colo. 119 will now run from Monday to Thursday, and the timing has changed as well.

BOULDER, CO — The Colorado Department of Transportation announced Tuesday that blasting closures on Boulder Canyon Drive will take place Mondays through Thursdays, an extension from before. Previously, they were supposed to begin on Tuesday weekly, the Daily Camera reported.

The blasting, between mile markers 39 and 40 on Colo. 119, will cause closures from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Thursday, lumping the whole four hours into one block instead of the previous 9 to 11 a.m. and 1 to 3 p.m. scheduled closures.

"The project team has been communicating with local community leaders, residents, businesses and commuters and they have determined that some larger rocks need to be removed from the mountain," the CDOT said, according to the Camera.

The Camera reported Jared Fiel, the CDOT's northeast regional spokesperson, as saying it's needed. "The blasting ended up needing us to take a little bit longer," he said, according to the Camera.
