Here are the top three stories in Boulder today:

  1. On Sunday, Clela Rorex, a pioneering LGBTQ+ ally from Boulder County, died at age 78 in Longmont. Rorex worked as a Boulder County clerk and recorder from 1975 to 1977 and was reportedly the first person to issue same-sex marriage licenses before the Colorado attorney general stopped her. She continued to advocate for LGBTQ+ community as an ally, and was known in Boulder for attending Pride parades, volunteering for LGBTQ+ services, and serving as a witness to many same-sex courthouse marriages. A celebration of life is being planned for Rorex on Jul. 23, which would have been her 79th birthday. (CPR News)
  2. Conscience Bay Company (CBC), a Boulder-based real estate investment, management and development firm, announced that it will be developing a new state-of-the-art life sciences and technology building on Walnut Street. The new building will be occupied by Ridgeway Science & Tech and will replace an existing "inefficient warehouse building." According to Daniel Aizenman, director of development and design for CBC, the firm's vision is "an open, flexible, and amenity-rich building that will attract and embody scientific discovery, collaboration, and environmental sustainability and wellness, unlike any building in the metro area." (Mile High CRE)
  3. Over the weekend, firefighters and first responders from across the region, including members of the Boulder County Sheriff's Office, were honored and thanked for their role in responding to the Marshall Fire in December 2021. An appreciation dinner was held on Saturday at the Louisville Community Park, with all food, drinks, and entertainment donated by local businesses. In addition to Boulder County first responders, representatives from Mountain View Fire Rescue, Lafayette Fire Department, and Louisville Police Department attended this community event.
