Driver Hits Cyclist In Boulder, Later Turns Self In
A driver hit a cyclist in a Boulder crosswalk, causing serious injuries, and drove away, but later turned himself in.
BOULDER, CO — A cyclist in Boulder was hit Friday night by a car whose driver initially fled the scene, according to a report by the Daily Camera. The driver later turned themselves in, the report says.
The cyclist has not been named. It was around 9:50 p.m. Friday when they were in the crosswalk on Canyon Boulevard, headed south on Broadway, when a van driven by Newsome James Gibson, 67, hit them, the Camera reported.
The cyclist was taken to a hospital with non life-threatening, but serious, injuries.

Initially, Gibson drove off, but called police about 30 minutes later, according to the Camera report.
The outlet reported Gibson is going to be issued a ticket for careless driving resulting in serious bodily injury.

The collision happened two days before the release of PeopleForBikes' report on best cities in the U.S. for biking, of which Boulder took the top spot. For safety, Boulder took spot No. 18.
