Final Chance For Comment On November's Tax Measures

Residents have until the end of the week to submit pro/con statements.

BOULDER, CO - Residents across the county have one more chance to submit comments on the Oil and Gas Pollution Tax that will appear on ballots this November. Those living within the City of Boulder have an additional opportunity to weigh in on a provision continuing the city's two-year-old sugary drink tax. Both measures are subject to the Taxpayers' Bill Of Rights (TABOR), which requires that pro and con statements from the community be included in the notice that will be mailed to voters with their ballots this fall.

The measures are required in order to allow the county and municipalities to keep the full revenues generated by the taxes. Submissions will be summarized into one statement for and against each tax.

According the the County Clerk and Recorder, statements are limited to 500 words and may not include names of private individuals and groups, endorsements or resolutions for or against a ballot measure, and they must be signed by a Boulder resident. Full details on submission and more information on the issues is available on the county's elections webpage.
