Grab Your Stein: Oktoberfest Comes To Civic Area This Weekend
Say you were there from the beginning - Boulder's first Oktoberfest is happening downtown.

BOULDER, CO - Don't look too closely at your calendar before you throw on your dirndl and lederhosen and run down to the Civic Area for Boulder's first Oktoberfest today and tomorrow. The inaugural schedule is full of music, entertainment and competition–fueled, of course, by Bavarian pretzels, sauerkraut, and mugs of German beer. The revelry kicks off today at noon and Saturday at 10 a.m., with last call at 10:30 p.m. both nights.
If you were worried this might just be a standing-around festival of music and beer, you might want to try your hand at drop-in keg bowling or the apparently-official Boulder County Corn Hole Championships. If you need a bit of extra cash, there is $300 on the line for the winners of the Stein Hoisting competition, held under official U.S. Steinholding Association Rules–you'll have to make it through a sure-t0-be grueling qualifying round to get to the final.
Celebrating with friends? Grab three of your favorite buddies and enter the Gelande Quaffing competition (Boulder Oktoberfest's website urges those interested to "just Google it"). Once you are worn out and properly hydrated, you will be able to sit down and properly enjoy the Human Glockenspiel.
