Human Remains Found Near Brainard Lake
Authorities confirm that the remains are human – and are now trying to figure out who they belong to and how the person died.

Experts have confirmed that an apparent human skull found by hikers on Labor Day is, indeed, from a human, reported the Boulder County Sheriff on Friday. The coroner is now investigating the cause of death and trying to identify the deceased person.
The skull was found by two hikers about 1 p.m. Monday near Lefthand Reservoir in the Brainard Lake area of Boulder County. Later that afternoon, the sheriff and the hikers returned to the area, but were unable to re-locate the specific area where the remains were found.
Sheriff's office staff returned to the area on Tuesday with volunteers from Front Range Rescue Dogs and representatives from the Boulder County Coroner's Office. Using a photo provided by the hikers, the searchers were able to find the skull. The search crew also found additional remains, confirmed to be human.
