LAFAYETTE, CO - One January Saturday each winter for the last 22 years, Lafayette residents have gathered together to pour over an oatmeal bar with more than a hundred toppings, featuring gummi worms, chocolate chips, and jalapeños. However, future editions of the highly anticipated annual breakfast, along with its 5k run (and, in 2018, its first Ninja Warrior competition) have been cancelled after critical sponsor Quaker pulled its support from the event, reported the Daily Camera this week.
According to Lafayette Chamber of Commerce Director of Events and Marketing Pat Vero, Quaker's departure was due to "tightening budgets and shifting priorities." The oatmeal-commerce icon did not respond to the Camera's request for further comment. "We explored many other options to keep this event without Quaker," Vero said, "But it just wasn't doable."
Recent editions have seen attendance reach close to four thousand, but according to Vero there are currently no plans to replace the event.
