Man With Knife Sparks Fear At Farrand Hall
Students warned of imminent danger by emergency alerts during the early hours of Friday morning.

BOULDER, CO - An armed suspect in CU's Farrand Hall was ultimately discovered to have only a pocketknife and to not be a threat. Nonetheless, it was quite a wake-up call for students who received a "RUN, FIGHT, HIDE" alert at 3:50 a.m. Friday morning telling them to stay in their rooms.
By 4:18 a.m., the situation was resolved with an update from the university explaining, "Farrand Hall secured; no continuing threat. CUPD received report of man with knife. Not displaying it in threatening manner."
Those waiting for an update were not pleased by the nearly-half hour pause between alerts, and expressed their fear and frustration on social media. Other respondents defended that break, saying that CU waited until it was confident the coast was clear before lifting the alert.

In a statement to Denver7, CU representatives explained their decision saying, "We are committed to getting campus affiliates the latest information we have in a timely fashion to keep everyone safe. And, once we develop more information through witness interviews, we share that information, too."
Farrand Hall is an undergraduate residence dormitory that 400 arts and science majors call home, according to the university website.
