DUI Hit-And-Run Charges Filed In Westminster Teen's Death

WESTMINSTER, CO – A driver who allegedly struck and killed a 15-year-old boy in Westminster and drove away has been charged, the Jefferson County District Attorney's Office said.

Elliot Hayden Bond, 25, asked police was charged with vehicular homicide – DUI and leaving the scene of an accident.

Bond was arrested for hitting 15-year-old Andrew Potter around 11:05 p.m. on Aug. 31 near Wadsworth Parkway and Church Ranch Road and driving away. Potter was crossing against the light at Church Ranch, a police affidavit said. Potter was injured and died on the scene. After the accident, witnesses told police they saw a "newer, dark colored hatchback with heavy windshield damage" traveling south on Wadsworth turn off onto Independence, about a block south, the police affidavit said.

Police found Bond in his damaged vehicle and observed signs of intoxication. Bond allegedly asked police, "Is the guy back there alright?"

He was arrested and appeared in bond court, where he was released on a $10,000 bond, the district attorney's office said.

Bond is next scheduled to appear in court Oct. 9.
