'One Book' Activities Abound In Broomfield
Explore the history of your family as the community discusses year's selection: "Lucky Boy" by Shanthi Sekaran.

BROOMFIELD, CO – Broomfield Library's One Book choice has been made, and it's "a gripping tale of two mothers and two very different pictures of immigration," organizers said.
This year's selection is "Lucky Boy" by Shanthi Sekaran. The author will visit Broomfield Library for an author talk on Nov. 3rd. Before then, the Broomfield Library and Cultural Affairs department will be hosting discussions around immigration and migration both on Broomfield Voice and social media.

this is an upcoming stage for One Book One Broomfield
The Broomfield Depot Museum is embarking on an interview collection project, inspired by StoryCorps, to record and preserve the stories of community members. The chance to record an interview for “You are Broomfield” is also a chance to ask someone you know about their life and how their family came to Broomfield.

Thousands of people who cross the Mexican border on the back of a train are exposed to numerous dangers during their journey. To aid in their voyage, “Las Patrones” help prepare food to pass to people atop the train as it goes by. This documentary traces the border between the life Las Patronas were given and the life of service that they chose. In the middle of a country at war, in a world where hope appears faint, Las Patronas cultivate a diminishing human trait: love.
- Gallery Show: Work by David Martínez
this is an upcoming stage for One Book One Broomfield Artist David Martinez uses acrylics to create works influenced by Chicano artists and is drawn specifically to dramatic lighting, figure rendering, and visible brush strokes. His love for public and political art comes from traveling throughout Europe and Mexico and viewing the grandiose murals there. He also draws inspiration from his Apache ancestry, often utilizing elements from Native American Culture and Art. His work continues to be collected and shown on the covers of several local publications as well as on walls and landmarks of Los Angeles.
