On February 20, 2022, at approximately 12:06 A.M., the Colorado Springs Police Department’s (CSPD) Communication Center received a report of a shots fired call for service in the 2500 Block of East Uintah Street. CSPD officers responded and located an adult male deceased on scene. Detectives from the CSPD’s Violent Crime Section Homicide/Assault Unit responded to assume responsibility for the investigation.

On Tuesday, February 22, 2022, the El Paso County Coroner’s Office conducted an autopsy of the male. The male was identified as 39-year-old Gilberto Barajas of Colorado Springs. Mr. Barajas died of gunshot wounds and his manner of death was ruled a homicide.

Mr. Barajas’ death is the 11th homicide in the city of Colorado Springs in 2022. At this time in 2021, the Colorado Springs Police Department investigated 3 homicides.
