Colorado Springs Reports First Fatal Crash Of 2018

Police said the fatal incident was reported at 3:25 p.m. Tuesday.

COLORADO SPRINGS, CA -- Colorado Springs this week had its first fatal car crash of 2018. Police said the fatal incident was reported at 3:25 p.m. Tuesday at the intersection of South Nevada Avenue and East Las Vegas Street.

A pedestrian apparently attempted to cross South Nevada Avenue eastbound, and was struck by a vehicle turning southbound from the westbound lanes of East Las Vegas Street, police said.

The pedestrian, who was pinned underneath the car, was eventually freed by rescuers and transported to an area hospital for treatment of serious injuries. The pedestrian died the next day, police said.

An autopsy will be conducted by the El Paso County Coroner’s Office.

Alcohol, drugs, and high speeds are not considered factors in this crash, police said.
