February 28, 2022 – The El Paso County Fair Queen committee announces the 2022 El Paso County Fair Queen, Makena Norton from Monument, Colorado.

Makena competed for the title of Fair Queen with two other contestants on Saturday, February 26, 2022. The competition was held at the El Paso County Fair and Events Center in Calhan, Colorado. The young women were evaluated in four competition categories including horsemanship, public speaking, personal interview, and the quality of her application.
Competitors for the crown were judged by a panel of three area volunteers, providing a variety of perspectives on the competition. Judges included Bill Spurlock, El Paso County Livestock Superintendent and financial advisor at Edward Jones; Danette Watson, the owner of Dandy Performance Horses and assistant trainer at Kelly McDowall Quarter Horses; and Carrie Geitner, El Paso County Commissioner for District 2.

“I was honored to be a part of this process, helping to select the 2022 El Paso County Fair Queen,” said Carrie Geitner, El Paso County Commissioner. “Makena continues a legacy of influential women community leaders, and we all look forward to her taking on this role to promote the 2022 El Paso County Fair.”
Makena excelled in all categories and was awarded the title of 2022 El Paso County Fair Queen. First runner up was Emily Heikkila of Calhan, Colorado, and Heather Blanchard of Rush, CO was named second runner up.
Makena Anne Norton is the 18-year-old daughter of Kristen and Jeff Norton. She is currently a senior at Lewis-Palmer High School. Makena has participated in many school activities, including student council, Poms Dance Team, Interscholastic Equestrian Association (IEA), and a volunteer for the Holistic Therapeutic Equine Center. Makena is also a Pikes Peak Rangerette.
