
FORT CARSON, CO -- A wind-driven grass fire erupted Sunday at the Fort Carson military base in Colorado. The fire prompted evacuations in the area as Colorado residents endured extreme winds.
FOX 31 reported that multiple agencies were battling the grass fire near the military base's housing area. The news station said roughly 400 people were affected by the fire as it burned 700 acres as of 5 p.m.
The 137,000-acre U.S. Army base is about nine miles away from the heart of Colorado Springs. Roughly 14,000 people live in Fort Carson, according to the latest U.S. Census numbers.
