Here are the top three stories today in Colorado Springs:
- The Colorado Springs Police Department has opened an investigation into a shooting that occurred on Saturday afternoon. The incident occurred in the 3000 block of Mallard Drive resulting in one woman dead and one man arrested. Eric Lockhart has been arrested on manslaughter charges after the department's Violent Crimes Section found probable cause. (KRDO)
- It's official: three Air Force Academy cadets will not be commissioned as military officers following graduation for refusing to receive the COVID-19 vaccination. There was a fourth cadet refusing the vaccine but they eventually decided to accept the vaccination last week. The Secretary of the Air Force will eventually decide whether the three cadets will have to reimburse the United States for education costs. (The Colorado Sun)
- A former Pikes Peak Community College student is launching an app meant to combat climate change. Ethan Thompson's Forevergreen iOS will reportedly gamify tasks to incentivize users to cut down on waste, emissions, and resources. For every 100 points a user earns through the app, one evergreen tree will be donated to a U.S. Forest Service tree-planting program, according to Thompson. (Colorado Springs Gazette)
