Here are the top three stories in Colorado Springs today:

  1. The newest Colorado Springs School District 11 Superintendent will be a retired Air Force Colonel. Michal Gaal was unanimously selected by the district's Board of Education. Gaal was selected after an extensive national search that came down to three finalists. The board will now enter contract negotiations with Gaal. (FOX21News.com)
  2. Get Outdoors Day returns after a COVID-19 pandemic hiatus. The event will be held today at Prospect Lake from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Participants will enjoy kayaking, paddle boarding, fishing, various activities, and much more. The first 800 children to participate will receive a free fishing pole. (KRDO)
  3. The City of Colorado Springs has been sued by the Citizens Project, Colorado Latinos Vote, the League of Women Voters of the Pikes Peak Region, and the Black Latino Leadership Coalition. The lawsuit demands that the city change the date of its elections due to racial disparities in voter turnout. The groups want municipal elections to be conducted in November - not in April. The groups believe that the date change will boost turnout, save the city money, and save everyone time. (Colorado Springs Gazette)
