1. Registered sex offender surrenders to Colorado Springs police after allegedly trying to entice a child (gazette.com) — Colorado Springs police say a registered sex offender confessed to trying to lure a young boy into a bathroom at a retail store in east Colorado Springs, and he’s now being held on $100,000 bond. Investigators located the child, who reported fleeing and not being touched, and say security footage backed up his account. Court records also outline prior violent conduct and concerns raised before the man’s prison release.
   

2. Downtown Partnership of Colorado Springs names new CEO (gazette.com) — A new permanent CEO is taking the reins of the Downtown Partnership of Colorado Springs, guiding major projects that will shape downtown’s economy, streetscape, and public spaces. Chelsea Gondeck will oversee efforts like the Elevate Downtown Plan, Clean & Safe program, and Tejon Street improvements, and residents can review the draft downtown plan online through Jan. 12.
   

3. More Than 185 Athletes Ready for NTDP Girls Indoor Training Series (usavolleyball.org) — Young volleyball players from across the country will be in Colorado Springs Dec. 27–30 for a major USA Volleyball NTDP Girls Indoor Training Series at the U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Training Center. More than 120 athletes in the U15–U18 age groups will train under college coaches, offering a chance to see future stars working in an elite environment right in town.
   

4. More than 770 flights delayed at DIA amid high winds (krdo.com) — High winds that caused hundreds of delays at Denver International Airport also disrupted travel in Colorado Springs, where 16 flights at COS were delayed Thursday but none were canceled. If you’re flying out soon, expect possible schedule changes and check your flight status before heading to the airport.
   

5. Bear relocated from Colorado Springs home after attempting to hibernate under deck (krdo.com) — Wildlife officers recently relocated a 200-pound black bear that tried to settle in for winter under a family’s deck at a Colorado Springs home. The bear, often seen roaming the old north end of downtown, was safely moved to better habitat, and CPW is reminding residents that unsecured bird seed, pet food, and trash can draw bears dangerously close to homes.
