Here's what we've learned (krdo.com) — A Colorado Springs Utilities project has closed a block of Cheyenne Road near Lake Avenue this holiday week to expand an underground electrical transmission vault, with work expected to wrap up and the street reopening on Saturday. Crews are enlarging the vault so maintenance can be done in one section while power keeps flowing through another, and CSU says nearby residents were notified by text, calls, and email.

CSFD: It's dust, not smoke in the air (fox21news.com) — If you’ve noticed a haze over Colorado Springs, fire officials say it’s dust from construction near Cedar Heights, not wildfire smoke, and there’s no active fire in the city. CSFD is still asking residents to call 911 only if they see clear signs of an actual fire.

Two suspects steal ‘BuzzBalls' from liquor store, reportedly returning in smash and grab (krdo.com) — Colorado Springs police are investigating after Veterans Wine and Liquor reported two thefts days apart, including a window-smashing break-in where alcohol was stolen. While merchandise losses were small, the store says the damage was costly, and CSPD is asking residents to share any tips through its main line or Crime Stoppers.

Staff say they’re heartbroken but grateful to the Colorado Springs community, while the building’s owners are already seeking a new concept to re‑energize the space and downtown foot traffic.

Police say storage unit break-ins aren’t rising overall but still happen, and they recommend avoiding irreplaceable valuables, checking security, and making sure you’re insured.
