- Tejon Street has reopened after crews hit a gas line Monday afternoon, prompting a temporary closure of the roadway. Northbound Tejon Street downtown was closed for several hours following the accident and finally reopened around 5:00 p.m. According to Colorado Springs Utilities, the gas line was hit by crews but did not cause an actual gas leak. (KKTV)
- The University of Colorado Colorado Springs is offering a new free STEM program to minority students. From Jul. 18-20, 24 high school students will participate in collegiate-level labs in chemistry, biology, biochemistry, and human anatomy as part of the UCCS STEM Outreach Program. The deadline to apply for the program is May 28. (KOAA News 5)
- A teenager from Colorado Springs was named Youth of the Year by the Boys’ and Girls’ Club of the Pikes Peak Region. 16-year-old Haylie Clayburn is currently a sophomore at Palmer High School and has been involved with the club's programs since she was in kindergarten. Competitors for the coveted title participated in a rigorous selection process that required them to write three essays, acquire two letters of recommendation, and give a three-minute speech in front of a group of local leaders.
