Police SWAT officers led a man onto the stretcher around 6:30 p.m. at a house in the 600 block of Inca Street. Three officers were wounded in the incident, police said.

Officers responded to a call of shots fired that was reported around 11:41 a.m.

At 1:29 p.m. shots were fired from the house, striking two officers responding to the scene. Other officers pulled them to safety, police said. One of the wounded officers was a veteran and one a new officer, Police Chief Paul Pazen said in an earlier afternoon press conference. Both officers were in "fair" condition, Pazen said at the 8 p.m. news conference.

One SWAT officer was injured in a "serious accident" while responding to the call. Traffic was closed off near 6th and 7th Avenues as well as Santa Fe and Galapago Streets.

Around 3:10 p.m., police announced that they would be shooting tear gas into the house.

Soon thereafter, flames appeared on the porch and roof of the house. Denver Fire and Rescue approached the house to try to douse the blaze. When the person had been removed from the house, firefighters were able to strike the fire.

"[Denver Fire] was trying to put out a fire while dealing with an armed suspect inside," Pazen said.

The wounded officers and the suspect were all taken to Denver Health Medical Center, only a few blocks away.

The name of the suspect was not released and Pazen said the incident would still be under investigation.
