Denver Teachers Will Strike Monday
A deal with Denver Public School district officials has fallen through in last-minute talks. Teachers will strike Monday morning.

DENVER, CO – Denver teachers will strike on Monday, after the union officials were unable to come to an agreement with district officials in last-minute talks Saturday afternoon.
This will be the first strike for Denver Public school teachers in 25 years. Union representatives rejected an offered 10 percent raise and asked for $28.5 million for teacher compensation. The district offered $20.8 million, and at the last minute added additional $2 million in teacher incentive bonuses, taken from administrative bonus funds.
But for the Denver Classroom Teachers Association the offers were too little too late.
Will schools stay open?
- The district has said they will notify parents on Sunday if their child's school will be open. The district had 1,500 substitute teachers on call, and had hired 300 extra.
- School lunch and buses will be running as usual.
- Preschool classrooms will not be in session.
- The City of Denver announced this week that all library and recreation center programs will be open and on extended hours to handle students.
Parents should update their student information in the DPS Parent Portal and should make sure that medication information is up-to-date. The District's Family Helpline is (720) 423-3054.
