Door-Ding Shooting: Man Charged With Murder In Denver
After an argument over a car door dent, victim was shot in the chest and drove himself to a hospital, where he died.

DENVER, CO – An Aurora man who allegedly fatally shot another man in Denver in a dispute over a car-door dent was charged in Denver Wednesday.
Benard Reed, 23, was charged with one count of first-degree murder for an incident that allegedly occurred in Denver's Westwood neighborhood Oct. 26, the Denver county District Attorney's office said.
Prosecutors allege Reed fatally shot 39-year-old Oscar Hernandez in the 3400 block of W. Kentucky Avenue. According to the police arrest affidavit, Reed parked his Lincoln Navigator SUV next to a Honda and a someone in the SUV hit the Honda several times while opening the SUV door. The driver of the Honda, a woman, exited her car and went to the driver’s side of the Lincoln to talk to Reed about the door dings, police said.

An argument allegedly ensued and Reed allegedly punched the woman in the face, police said. Hernandez arrived at the scene and confronted Reed, who then allegedly shot Hernandez. Hernandez managed to drive himself to the hospital, where he died, the DA's office said.
The defendant fled the crime scene and was later arrested on Oct. 28 in Aurora.

Reed is in custody in the Denver city jail being held on no bond. His next scheduled court date is Nov. 8.
