Here are the top stories in Denver today:
- In our excitement to once again cook a complete holiday meal for more people, it's quite possible we'll forget an item or two on our grocery lists. Grocery stores such as King Soopers, Safeway, Whole Foods and Sprouts will be open on Thanksgiving Day; however Costco, Target, Walmart and Trader Joe's will be closed — here's a list of grocery stores that will be open in Denver's metro area. (Denver Patch)
- If you traveled last Thanksgiving during the height of the coronavirus pandemic, traffic is going to look a lot different in Denver's metro area this year, especially if you plan to make the trip by car — it will be wise to give yourself plenty of time to make it to your destination. The best time to travel in metro Denver on Thanksgiving Day is before 11 a.m., and the worst travel times are between 12 p.m. to 3 p.m., according to this year's travel forecast released by AAA. (Denver Patch)
- Masks are again required in indoor public spaces in most of Denver's metro area. Denverites should avoid crowded and poorly ventilated spaces, and it's safer to be outdoors, the CDC says. For anyone who may be sick or has symptoms, the message is to stay home and away from others. They should also get tested for the virus as should anyone who may have been in close contact with a person who has COVID-19, the agency says. Here's how to find free COVID-19 community testing sites in Colorado. (Patch)
- Do you know who "Daddy Bruce" Randolph is? He not only opened an iconic barbecue restaurant in Denver, but he also made it his mission to feed thousands of Denverites, particularly on Thanksgiving. The son of a former slave, Randolph did everything he could to make our city a better place. (CBS Denver)
- Unfortunately Colorado and the rest of the nation face a surge in online scams each year during the holiday season. The FBI Denver Division has released a list of tips to prevent fraudsters from making you their next victim. (FOX31 Denver)

About me: I'm a Patch editor covering news in Denver's metro area and Boulder. I've spent the past nine years working for various news outlets across North America, including Chicago Patch, Global News and WBEZ. I've covered high-profile court cases, civil rights abuses, mass shootings, natural disasters and major crimes — but also countless happy news stories about kindness, innovation and resilience. When I'm not writing articles, I can be found hiking, snowboarding, debating politics with my husband and attempting to be a sci-fi and astronomy geek.
