Here are the top stories today in Denver:

  1. North America is poised to get another La Niña winter — a weather phenomenon that occurs when the water near the equator of the Pacific Ocean is cooler than average. La Niña's effects on the climate are most pronounced in the winter months. The weather event is expected to bring dry, windy weather to Colorado — particularly to our state's southern regions. (Patch)
  2. A new University Of Colorado Denver study found that none of the state-run vaccine lotteries led to increased vaccinations. Researchers suggest that other methods, such as better messaging surrounding the benefits of vaccination, might have been more effective. (Press Release Desk)
  3. Check your freezers, Denverites. Certain lots of Butterball turkey, beef and pork are all subject to recall for concerns ranging from the presence of plastic or lead particles or the potential for listeria contamination. (Denver Patch)
  4. Denver voters will see Referred Question 2F on their ballots Nov. 2. If the proposal passes, $190 million in bonds will go to National Western Center projects, including $30 million to revamp the center. Then $160 million would go to a new arena that may replace the Denver Coliseum. (Westword)
  5. Could you one day use your phone to get aerial footage? What could go wrong with that ;)? A new Kickstarter campaign is raising money for just that — but don't worry, at least for now, it's only for kicking phones and dropping them off cliffs, etc. (FOX31 Denver)
