Man Gets 48 Years For Shooting Wife After Birthday Party

Cain Wilkens got the maximum prison sentence after fatally shooting his wife in the head in Denver. He told police she shot herself.

DENVER, CO – A man who shot his wife in the head after a birthday party, then told police she shot herself was sentenced to a maximum prison sentence Monday.

Cain Wilkens, 45, received the maximum sentence of 48-years for the shooting death of his wife, Clarissa Wilkens, 30, the Denver county District Attorney's Office said Monday.

In the early morning hours of Jan. 21, 2018, police found Clarissa Wilkens dead in the couple's apartment in the 1500 block of South Albion Street. Cain Wilkens came into the building manager's office around 3:25 a.m. screaming that his wife had just killed herself, police said. But police found signs of a scuffle in the apartment, which was loaded with weapons.

After a five-day jury trial, Wilkens was found guilty last November of second-degree murder.
