Here are the top stories in Denver today:
- A 27-year-old Denver man was sentenced to more than 48 years in prison after he killed his girlfriend, Shaina Castillo, in front of her three children, and then left the kids alone with her body. Denver's DA highlighted the high rates of domestic violence against Native American women and said the sentence shows abusers they will be held accountable. (The Denver Channel)
- For the second year in a row, La Nina climate conditions will bring above-average temperatures this winter to a good portion of the United States, according to a new forecast released by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. Colorado is among states slated to see warmer, drier weather. (Denver Patch)
- A corporate travel tech company is eyeing Denver for another 1,739 jobs. The company is set to receive $8.8 million in state job growth incentive tax credits. The name of the company has not been disclosed, but The Denver Post deduced it could be Hotel Engine. (The Denver Post)
- Human remains found in Florida are confirmed to belong to Brian Laundrie, the FBI's Denver office said Thursday. Laundrie is a person of interest in the strangulation death of his fiancée, Gabby Petito — a case the nation has been watching as Domestic Violence Awareness Month continues. (Sarasota Patch)
- A 14-acre property with its own oasis in Greenwood Village is listed for $21 million. The estate, which was transformed by an energy executive, was featured in the Wall Street Journal. The property includes a lake, two ponds, stables, a waterfall, and ... well, maybe just take a look! It's quite dreamy. (Littleton Patch)
