DENVER, CO – A Denver judge sentenced a 24-year-old man to life in prison for shooting two men in 2015, killing one of them, then fleeing to Minnesota.
Najib Mahamoud, now 24, was sentenced Friday by Denver District Court Judge Shelley Gillman to life without parole for the murder of Isaiah Roquemore, 28, and the wounding of another man.
Prosecutors said On Oct. 15, 2015, Mahamoud shot Roquemore and another man with a shotgun at the Spyglass Hill Apartments, 7100 E. Mississippi Ave.

Mahamoud had been arrested and charged with stabbing a man 17 times after an altercation on Nov. 26 the year before, media reports said. He was released on $50,000 bail, which had been cut in half. But prosecutors dropped the charges that July when they failed to locate the victim.
After the 2015 shooting, Mahamoud fled to Minnesota, where he was later captured in November, 2015 and extradited back to Denver, the DA's office said. A jury found Mahamoud guilty of first-degree murder in January, 2019.

Judge Gillman also sentenced Mahamoud to 48 years (to be served consecutively) for the wounding of Virgil Robinson plus three additional years for the felony menacing of Mario Jones.
In addition to the murder of Roquemore, the Denver DA's office announced that the Denver Grand Jury indicted Mahamoud for his alleged role in a prolific burglary ring involving 28 individuals. That case is still ongoing.
