1. Pilot program using drones helping Denver police respond to emergency calls (cbsnews.com) — Denver police are testing drones as “first responders,” sending them to emergency calls to scout scenes, spot suspects, and sometimes clear incidents without dispatching officers. Since October, two drones have flown to more than 200 calls, usually arriving first and feeding real-time video to officers, while the department promises no passive surveillance and plans a public flight-tracking dashboard.
   

2. Pedestrian seriously injured in crosswalk hit-and-run in west Denver (denverpost.com) — A pedestrian was seriously injured in a Saturday morning hit-and-run while using a crosswalk at South Federal Boulevard and West Kentucky Avenue in west Denver. Police are searching for a white 2010 Toyota Corolla with Colorado plate EDMU42, believed to have front-end damage, and are urging anyone who spots it to call 911 or Denver police immediately.
   

3. '100% preventable': CDOT launches holiday DUI crackdown as family honors son killed by drunk driver (denver7.com) — Denver drivers are being warned as CDOT launches a 15-day holiday DUI crackdown, highlighted by a Denver family whose son was killed by a drunk driver after a park-and-ride drop-off. With impaired-driving deaths down but still high, Uber and MADD are offering an $8 ride discount across the Denver metro area from December 24 to January 2.
   

4. MSU wins Division II Volleyball National Championship (kdvr.com) — Metro State University Denver’s volleyball team has brought a national title home, winning the NCAA Division II championship with a 3-1 victory over Concordia-St. Paul after upsetting top-seeded Tampa. The Roadrunners capped a dominant 32-3 season and 23-match win streak, led by standout performances across kills, blocks, assists, and digs in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
   

5. Kids board a United 777 for a trip to the North Pole at DIA (kdvr.com) — Kids from several local nonprofits got a magical holiday experience at Denver International Airport, boarding a United 777 for a short “fantasy flight” that landed in a decorated hangar dubbed the North Pole. The annual United Airlines event, run with Denver-based partners and volunteers, gave children a chance to meet Santa and have some Christmas wishes granted.
