Probation For Ex-Cop Who Drained Dead Brother's Estate

A former Kit Carson County Deputy who stole more than $200K from his dead brother's estate was sentenced in Denver.

DENVER, CO – A former Kit Carson County deputy, who was convicted of draining the estate of his dead brother of more than $200,000 was sentenced to probation Monday in Denver County District Court.

Larry Duane Fisher, 61, will serve 10 years of probation and will serve 90 days in jail, the Denver District Attorney's Office said. Fisher was also ordered to pay $236,569.79 restitution to the heirs of his brother, Floyd W. Fisher, who died of cancer in 2015.

Larry Fisher, of Wray, pleaded guilty in December of draining his brother's estate after being named "durable power of attorney" for his brother Floyd Fisher who was diagnosed with lung cancer at age 77. Prosecutors said Larry Fisher stole money from the sale of a family property and other assets, using it for personal expenses including buying guns and a pickup truck and transferring tens of thousands into his teen son's bank account.

Larry Fisher was employed by the Kit Carson County Sheriff's office from 1979 to 1997, according to the DA's office.
