Red Flag Warning Issued For Parts Of Metro Denver

"Conditions will be conducive to the rapid spread of new fires," the National Weather Service said in an alert.

DENVER, CO — The National Weather Service has issued a red flag warning for some regions in Denver's metro area. The warning will be in effect from noon until 6 p.m. Monday for the following areas below 6,000 feet:

  • Denver
  • West Arapahoe County
  • North Douglas County
  • West Adams County
  • East Broomfield County

South wind is expected to gust between 15 and 25 mph, but some gusts could reach up to 35 mph, weather officials said. Humidity could reach as low as 14 percent.

"Conditions will be conducive to the rapid spread of new fires," the weather alert reads. "Probability of ignition will increase. Avoid any burning or outdoor activities that may cause sparks, and abide by established fire restrictions."

A red flag warning is issued when there are critical fire weather conditions.

"A combination of strong winds...low relative humidity...and warm temperatures can contribute to extreme fire behavior," the National Weather Service alert read.
