Women's Suffrage Poster Contest: Denver Museum Calls For Entries
Posters were carried by women suffragists to get their message across. New posters will reflect the 21st Century's engaged women voters.

DENVER, CO – More women than ever ran for office in the 2018 midterm elections, and 35 incoming U.S. House members are women, making a total of 101 female members, the largest number in history.
The Center for Colorado Women’s History at the Byers-Evans House and the 2019 Womxn's March on Colorado want to celebrate that civic engagement, as well as commemorate the 125th anniversary of Colorado women winning the right to vote.
A "Women's Suffrage Poster Contest," sponsored by the museum and the march committee, invites all artists, designers and other creators to participate.

“Imagery from the first wave of feminism and the struggle for suffrage are certainly inspiring, but we don’t see in them the diverse faces that make up our modern understanding of intersectional feminism,” said Jillian Allison, director of the Center for Colorado Women’s History. “We want to update those images to reflect the movement that exists in the current moment.”
Posters that may be included in future exhibits on "struggles for justice and on suffrage" at the Center for Colorado Women’s History, the museum said in a press release. Winning selections will also be highlighted the 2019 Womxn's March on Colorado. Selected posters will also be distributed for free at the Womxn's March in Denver on January 19, 2019.

Posters were a way for pathbreaking women suffragists to get their message across. The museum is "seeking posters that will update the important messages about voting for a modern era, reflecting the diverse cultural expressions of Colorado in the 21st century. Pieces should reflect the power and urgency of voting, celebrations of women’s suffrage and activism, and the values of adventurous dialogue about the intersections of gender, race, and class," the museum said.
Submissions should be high resolution images in pdf or jpg format and submitted at www.historycolorado.org/womenshistorypostercontest.
The deadline is Friday, December 14, 2018.
