Both officers were struck with bullets when they responded on Sunday around 11:30 a.m. to a report of shots fired in the 600 block of Inca Street. Jaramillo and Gameroz were shot in front of a house, allegedly by resident Joseph Quintana, 35. The officers were dragged to safety by their fellow officers and taken to Denver Health Medical Center, only a few blocks away, police said.

Quintana then barricaded himself in the house for hours, then allegedly set the house on fire. Police ended up using tear gas and K9 dogs finally took the him into custody, while Denver Fire emergency workers were putting out the fire.
