After Tragedy, Golden Grandparents Prepare To House 3 Kids

Lynda and Mel Campbell will raise their 3 grandchildren after the alleged murder of their daughter Barbara by her husband in Tennessee.

GOLDEN, CO – A retired Golden couple are preparing to take on the responsibility of raising their three grandchildren after a tragedy in Tennessee has left the children without their mother and father.

Lynda and Mel Campbell are currently in Columbia, Tennessee after the death of their daughter Barbara Campbell Ludwig, 40, Lynda Campbell said.

Columbia police found Barbara Ludwig dead at her home in the 100 block of Sam Davis Road around 5:20 p.m. on Dec. 8, the local newspaper reported. Her husband, Richard Aaron Ludwig, 42, was arrested and charged with first-degree murder and aggravated domestic assault. Richard Ludwig is in custody of the Maury County Jail being held without bond.

"We are here in Tennessee now, because there is a lot to do with the court case," Campbell told Patch. The Campbells were able to spend some time with their three grandchildren, ages 10, 12 and 14 on Thursday. The children are living with a foster family temporarily, Lynda Campbell said. The couple will return to Golden briefly, "and get the children's bedrooms ready," in their Golden home, Campbell said.

A GoFundMe site, posted by Campbell's sister, Tiffany Moler, of Denver is raising money for the Campbell's expenses.

"My sister and her husband are retired and could use help with expenses such as clothes, food, and everyday needs. The kids are devastated with their loss of now both patents," Moler posted.

Barbara Ludwig was one of three siblings who grew up in Jefferson County, her mother said. The family said their daughter's remains will be sent to Colorado where a memorial service will be planned for the future.
