Golden Man Held on $100K Bond After Douglas County Shootout

Jason Bradley Sutton​, 21, was injured in the car chase and shootout with sheriff's deputies that left one man dead.

GOLDEN, CO – A Golden man was identified Tuesday as one of three occupants of a car involved in a Douglas County high-speed pursuit and gun battle with sheriff's deputies that left on man dead last week.

Jason Bradley Sutton, 21, of Golden was injured in the shootout Nov. 27 at I-25 and Dry Creek Road that closed roads all day. Sutton was released from the hospital after being treated for injuries and then booked in the Douglas County Jail, the sheriff's office said in a press release. He's facing charges of first-degree aggravated motor vehicle theft, complicity in a crime, possession of burglary tools and tampering with evidence.

Sutton is being held on $100,000 bond.

Around 3 a.m., Douglas County sheriff's deputies tried to stop a stolen Jeep Grand Cherokee near C470 and Broadway. People in the car fired shots at deputies and the vehicle raced away. Deputies saw the passengers in the car throwing duffle bags out the window during the pursuit, the sheriff's office said. The chase ended at East Dry Creek Road and I-25. Deputies chased the Jeep to East Dry Creek Road near the ramp from I-25 and forced it onto the median. Suspects and deputies changed fire, with five deputies firing their weapons, Sheriff Tony Spurlock said.

Nicholas Ryan, 20, of Aurora, was identified as the person killed the shootout.

Pierce Elliot Langewisch, 20, was the other surviving occupant of the vehicle. Langewisch is in custody at the Douglas County jail on a warrant for failure to identify as a sex offender, Douglas County Sheriff Tony Spurlock said last week.

Following protocol, the officer involved shooting is being investigated by a Critical Incident Response Team from the Arapahoe County Sheriff's Office and the 18th Judicial District Attorney's Office.
