Jail Guard Accused Of Smuggling Drugs, Having Sex With Inmate
JeffCo jail deputy Myriah Lynn Lovato, 29, is accused of having an "inappropriate relationship" with an inmate and smuggling in contraband.
GOLDEN, CO. – A former female Jefferson County detention deputy at the JeffCo jail was arrested Friday for misconduct after allegations that she had sexual contact with an inmate and smuggled contraband into the jail.
Myriah Lynn Lovato, 29, turned herself in Friday after a warrant for her arrest was issued accusing her of unlawful drug possession, introducing contraband, sexual conduct in a correctional institution and misconduct charges.
Starting on Dec. 22, 2018 Lovato was investigated by the department for allegedly, "developing an inappropriate relationship with an inmate and bringing contraband into the county jail," JeffCo Sheriff Jeff Shrader said in a video statement.

Lovato was booked into jail on Dec. 22, and placed on unpaid administrative leave. On Jan. 2, 2019, she submitted a letter of resignation, a statement from the sheriff's office said.
Lovato was hired on Jan. 7, 2016, the JeffCo Sheriff's office said. She completed academy training in June, 2016 and was assigned to the Detentions Services Division.

The sheriff's department said in a statement they would "conduct an internal investigation" when the criminal investigation is complete.
"It is extremely disheartening and frustrating when one of our own becomes the subject of an investigation, is facing felony charges and potential jail time," Shrader said in a statement. "It’s our intent to always serve you with integrity and respect. Unfortunately one of our own has failed in this regard."
Lovato will be held at another, unspecified jail facility until her next hearing on Sunday, Jan. 20, the sheriff's office said.
