Some of the items included Denver Post and Colorado Transcript newspapers from November, 1968, including the Nov. 6 election edition of the Post which showed a now-famous photo of Republican candidate Richard Nixon celebrating his victory over Democrat Hubert Humphrey with arms outspread and hands making the victory sign.

Also in the capsule was a proclamation from the town officials to be read 50 years later in 2018.
The capsule presented some mysteries, though, as it contained newspapers dated a couple months later than the date it was supposedly buried, Nov. 11, 1968.
Sunday morning, hundreds of people packed into Golden’s City Hall for a ceremony and wrote their own notes to the future.
The time capsule tradition began in 1918 when Golden residents buried the first one in honor of the end of World War I and asked that the people of 1968 open it. The next generation held a celebration on Nov. 11, 1968 at 11 a.m. They then buried another capsule for the Golden residents of 2018.
The Golden History Museum will leave some of the contents on display. Also on display is the new time capsule that will be filled with items that represent our world today, and is scheduled to be unearthed on Nov. 11, 2068.
