CSP releases results of ‘Operation Silent Night' (westernslopenow.com) — A recent one-day ‘Operation Silent Night’ traffic surge in Mesa County, involving Colorado State Patrol, Grand Junction Police, and Fruita Police, led to 56 citations and one DUI arrest. Grand Junction officers stopped drivers going up to 110 mph in 65 mph zones, and CSP credits community reports of dangerous driving with helping keep local highways safer.

2. Fruita boys cruise to fifth straight win (gjsentinel.com) — Grand Junction high school teams had a busy weekend at the Family Health West Winter Classic, with the girls topping Eagle Valley behind another big scoring night from Kendra Tooker, while the boys fell just short against Montezuma-Cortez. Fruita Monument’s boys rolled to a fifth straight win, and several other valley teams, including Central and Palisade, turned in notable performances.
3. EPA OKs removal of river containment booms used in train fuel spill cleanup (gjsentinel.com) — Containment booms on the Gunnison River, including at Grand Junction’s Redlands Dam boat launch, are being removed as the EPA shifts from active cleanup to monitoring after this month’s train fuel spill. Officials say no Grand Junction drinking water systems were affected, only light sheens remain, and long‑term environmental impacts are still being evaluated.
4. Accidental Shooting, Mile 137 on Hwy 141 Gateway (junctionnow.com) — Emergency crews from the Grand Junction area responded Sunday to an accidental shooting involving a 10-year-old boy along Highway 141 between Gateway and Whitewater. Deputies intercepted the vehicle near mile marker 137, began treating a gunshot wound near the child’s armpit, and coordinated with EMS and CareFlight; officials say he was awake, oriented, and had a strong pulse.
