📰 News we're reading

1. Junct'n Square Pizza food truck temporarily closed after fire (kjct8.com) — A fire early Friday morning temporarily shut down the Junct'n Square Pizza food truck at 12th Street and Ute Avenue in Grand Junction, though firefighters quickly knocked down the flames and no one was inside. The cause is still under investigation, and owners say they’ll pause truck operations as they continue transitioning the restaurant to its new Las Colonias riverfront location.

2. Grand Junction's Lost River Ferry Few People Remember Today (94kix.com) — Before the Fifth Street Bridge, Grand Junction residents crossed the Colorado River on a cable-guided ferry that carried wagons, livestock, and workers between town and Orchard Mesa. This look back at the 1880s service, its tragic early operator, and other long-gone local favorites taps into the city’s nostalgia and imagines how a heritage ferry could reconnect people with the river today.

3. Marijuana reclassification draws praise, and ire, amongst Coloradans (westernslopenow.com) — A Grand Junction dispensary owner is welcoming President Trump’s move to reclassify marijuana as a less-restricted Schedule III drug, saying it could finally open doors for serious medical research. A child-safety advocate, however, warns that easier access and perception of safety could worsen mental health and addiction risks, especially for youth, leaving local residents weighing potential benefits against possible harms.

4. Central boys fall to Cortez (gjsentinel.com) — Grand Junction High School’s girls basketball team dropped a home game to Air Academy, 69-47, falling to 2-6 on the season. The Family Health West Winter Classic also saw Central’s boys lose to Montezuma-Cortez, while Palisade’s boys stayed unbeaten and the girls slipped back to .500.
