• Grand Junction couple ordered to pay $60K after pleading guilty to defrauding assistance programs (westernslopenow.com) — A Grand Junction couple has been ordered to repay about $60,000 after admitting they failed to report income while receiving SNAP, Colorado Works, and child care assistance over several years. Mesa County investigators uncovered repeated violations, leading to criminal prosecution, a forgery conviction, restitution with interest, and a 12‑month disqualification from assistance programs.
   

• Experts issue warning as disease-carrying insects appear in new US regions: 'They are locked into humans' (thecooldown.com) — Public health officials in Grand Junction have detected Aedes aegypti mosquitoes, a species capable of spreading dengue and Zika, and expanded local trapping, testing, and spraying in response. While officials say local dengue transmission is still unlikely, residents are urged to remove standing water, use repellents, and take basic precautions as warming temperatures make the region more hospitable to these insects.
   

• One wreath at a time: Community members remember those who served for the holiday season (kjct8.com) — Families and volunteers in Grand Junction gathered at the Veterans Memorial Cemetery of Western Colorado on Saturday to lay wreaths on veterans’ graves for the Wreaths Across America ceremony. Residents and cadets emphasized slowing down during the holidays to honor those who served and remember loved ones who are missing but not forgotten.
